2020 Annual Membership Meeting & Awards Luncheon
We have postponed the December 3 Annual Awards meeting and rescheduled the VIRTUAL event for February 9, 2021. We feel by practicing personal responsibility and setting an example for our community, we can get back to our emphasis on flattening the curve and doing whatever we can to avoid any additional state ordered shut down
This event highlights and celebrates this year's achievements while honoring those who made it possible.
2020 Keynote SpeakerDr. Tedd L. Mitchell
“I appreciate the opportunity to join our business leaders in the Lubbock community at this year’s Lubbock Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting. After an incredibly challenging year for everybody, this is a great event for our community to celebrate our local leaders – the people who have really stepped up to care for everyone in Lubbock – and a chance for us all to recognize our tireless front line health care professionals,” said Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D., chancellor of the TTU System.
Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D., was named the fifth chancellor of the Texas Tech University System on Oct. 25, 2018. Dr. Mitchell works collaboratively with the Board of Regents, TTU System administration and university presidents to enhance the TTU System's profile and support shared missions of advancing higher education, health care, research and community outreach. Additionally, Dr. Mitchell guides the TTU System?s engagement with state elected officials in Austin and federal leaders in Washington, D.C., to further enhance funding and support.Historic milestones were achieved, under Dr. Mitchell's leadership, after receiving legislative funding and approval in the 86th Texas Legislature to establish a new Texas Tech University veterinary school in Amarillo, and a new dental school at TTUHSC El Paso. This will be the state's first veterinary school in more than a century and first dental school in over 50 years. The addition of these two schools makes the TTU System one of only nine in the nation to offer programs for undergraduate, medical, law, nursing, pharmacy, dental and veterinary education, among other academic areas.
Dr. Mitchell also is leading the TTU System's efforts toward a partnership with Midwestern State University to become the fifth university to join the TTU System.
Dr. Mitchell is married to Dr. Janet Tornelli-Mitchell. They met while in medical school and practiced together for nearly two decades. The Mitchells have three children: Katherine, an assistant district attorney in Dallas, Charlie, a petroleum engineer in Dallas and a Texas Tech University alumnus, and Chris, a Texas Tech University and Villanova alumnus, who plans to enter the military.
