The Chamber’s Water-Smart Task Force brings together entities including the City of Lubbock, Texas AgriLife Extension-Lubbock County, High Plains Underground Water Conservation District No. 1, Texas Tech University, and business and industry members of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce.
The original Water Conservation Council was formed in March 2004 – as a subcommittee of the Agriculture Committee – based on various concerns, namely rule of capture and water rights in general. The committee has grown considerably in the past few years, and it remains a diverse group of people from all the above entities. Task force members meet quarterly to discuss current water issues and work on several projects focusing on education about conserving water in both agriculture and at homes and businesses.
The task force meets quarterly at the Chamber Office. We have speakers available to present information on water conservation for your clubs and organizations. If you are interested, email Norma Ritz Johnson, Executive Vice President.
